The Prophet, Verse XVIII

XVIII

where do the souls
of the children of vek go
when their forms fall
in battle?
when their forms fall
to earned punishment?
when their forms fall
to injustice?

all to the same place
which isĀ nowhere

and when they return
(they always return)
they do not forget
as the children of fathers do
they do not forget

and when they return
(they always return)
they do so behind the
turned backs of gods

and when they return
(they always return)
they come offering
a greater curse
than under which they
were first banished

and when they return
(they always return)

and when they return
(they always return)

AND WHEN THEY RETURN
THEY COME TO EXACT PAYMENT
AND WHEN THEY RETURN
THEY WILL COLLECT FOR THE SUFFERING
THAT THEY WERE FORCED TO ENDURE
BEHIND THE TURNED HEADS OF GODS
AND WHEN THEY RETURN
THEY WILL COLLECT WITH A BLACK HAND
WHICH CANNOT BE SLOWED
CANNOT BE SLOWED BY OLD EVIL GODS
OR THE WEAK CURSES OF MORTALS
AND WHEN THEY RETURN
ALL WILL BE RECONCILED
BY A BLACK HAND
WHICH CANNOT BE SLOWED
FOR THAT IS THE TRUE WAY OF KAH
AND TRUE KARMA DEMANDS IT

And so the prophet slept for seven years, and then he returned.
