Crafts

The following is a list of crafts currently available on Dark Isles. We are working on extending this list to also include dyeing, jewelry making, chandlery, glass working, pottery and cobblery.

Alchemy

The skill of mixing together a variety of ingredients including herbs, roots, minerals and animal by-products to produce useful salves, potions, poisons, dyes and poultices using the mix command and a mortar and pestle. In order to mix herbs together, you will need to be holding a mortar and pestle and have an empty gray vial in your inventory. Place the herbs you wish to mix together in the mortar (you will need at least one) and simply type: mix. Each herb has its own effects both positive and negative. Combining herbs together combines these effects and experimentation will be required to get the result you want. As your alchemy skill increases, you will notice when you look at the various herbs, you will get hints about their potential properties. The higher your skill, the more useful the hints.

Brewing

Essential for any Innkeeper, the brewing skill allows the character to create a range of beers and wines using the brew command, a stove, a copper kettle and various other implements. Typing brew with no arguments following will give you a list of all the drinks you can brew. As your skill level increases, as does the number of drinks you can make.

Carpentry

Use the carpentry skill to construct a wide range of furniture, tools and other objects out of wood for yourself or to sell on to others at a profit. The following is a list of tools you will need to make your way in carpentry:

  • a small wood carving knife with a dark wooden handle
  • a small iron bladed chisel with a wooden handle
  • a steel bladed saw with a wooden handle
  • a wooden mallet made of dark wood

Typing woodcraft with no arguments following will give you a list of all the items you can craft. As your skill level increases, as does the number of items you can make.

Cooking

The art of taking several ingredients and putting them together to create something appetising and profitable. Like with brewing, typing cook on its own will list the things you can cook. In order to cook, you will require a stove, pots and pans. As your skill level increases, as does the number of meals you can make.

Leather Working

This skill allows you to not only create a variety of items from leather, but also gives you the ability to be able to clean and cure skins. To see what items you can create using this skill, type make. As your skill level increases, as does the number of items you can make.
